FATS Forty 40/50

A forty mile or fifty KM trail run on the FATS (Forks Area Trail System, located in Sumter National Forest near North Augusta, SC. The course is a series of 6 loops of well-groomed, rolling terrain, forested trails with 2.4 miles on road, some hills, some roots, some rocks, but overall, very runnable. Runners doing the 50Km will complete 5 loops and are free to decide which distance to run while on the course. At the last aid station, you can choose to head for the finish line or head out on Loop 6.
There will be 6 fully-stocked aid stations with a wide variety of food and drinks, food at the finish, unique finisher's awards and no cut-off times.

The course will be marked with orange ribbons:
Single ribbon on right - Continue straight
Double ribbons on right - Make a right turn
Double ribbons on left - Make a left turn

There will also be some signs with directional arrows at some intersections.

No set entry fee is being charged, however, please send a donation to defray expenses for food, drinks, awards, etc. In the event there are any monies left after expenses, they will be donated to SORBA (Southern Off-Road Biking Association), who worked with the Forest Service to create these trails and continue to maintain the trails.

Directions to start:
Coming from the east on I-20, take Exit 1 - North Augusta, turn right on SC 230, travel about 5.5 miles, turn left on Woodlawn Road and go 3.8 miles to the parking area on the left.
Coming from the west on I-20, take Exit 199 in Augusta and turn left on Highway 28. Travel 8.5 miles, crossing into South Carolina. Turn right on Hopewell Church Road/ Deep Step Road, go 3.3 miles and turn right on Woodlawn Road. Parking area is on the right. There are also signs that say Forks Area Trail System as you approach the parking area.

There are numerous motels nearby in North Augusta and Augusta. Camping is available for a $7 per night fee at Lick Fork Lake Campground, about 12 miles from the start.
