See the Course Map

Whispering Pines Park is a lovely spot in the heart of Inverness with miles of well-maintained, wooded trails winding through and around it. The course will follow an approximately 4.5 mile trail loop beginning and ending at the Youth Group Picnic Shelter located near the north end of the park. This loop will be measured with a wheel for the exact distance prior to the event. Participants will run and/or walk the loop as many times as they want during the 12 hours.

The gate to the park will open at 6 AM and check-in will start at 6:15 AM in the Pool Complex Screened Pool Room, where there are lights. There are restrooms nearby and additional restrooms by the Youth Group picnic shelter. Participants must park in the parking lot by the swimming pool, which is approximately .3 mile from the start/finish. Due to safety concerns with it not being daylight until almost 7 AM, all participants will group at the gate to the dirt service road leading to the Picnic Shelter at 6:45 AM and will be lead down the road to the start. The service road is located at the north end of the parking lot. Bring drop bags, folding chairs, anything you might need during the run, with you to leave at the picnic shelter where you can access them after each loop.

At the completion of each loop, runners must check-in with the lap counters and make sure they record your bib number. A large fully-stocked aid station will be set up in the picnic shelter with a wide variety of foods, both sweet and salty, hot and cold, and a variety of drinks. There will also be a self-serve water stop about midway on the loop.

This event is ideal for all ages and all abilities of runners and walkers, as you choose how long or how far you want to go and you get credit for whatever distance you complete. Anyone completing at least 3 loops will receive a finisher's award. Runners can take a break at any time, leave the course, return and run some more, just let the lap counters know what you are doing.

Course will be marked with directional arrows at the turns and orange flagging ribbon. There are many trails in the park, so it is important to pay attention to the course markings. It will be daylight at the start, but if you plan to stay out for the entire 12 hours, you must have a headlamp or flashlight after 6 PM.

Directions to start: Follow Highway 44 West/ West Main Street, through Inverness. At the intersection of Highway 44 and Forest Drive/Pleasant Grove Road/ CR 581, turn right on Forest Drive and drive about 1/4 mile to park entrance, follow the signs to the swimming pool.
